Foster Portsmouth were at this year’s Armed Forces Day event on Southsea Common on Saturday 21 June.
This special celebration for Portsmouth’s Armed Forces Day involved parades, music, displays and a whole lot more.
Foster Portsmouth were there to thank all our Armed Forces – serving, veterans and cadets – as well as the families who support them. We also took the opportunity to raise awareness of fostering and how people, including those with armed forces’ experience, can utilise their skills and experience to change the life of a vulnerable child.
Our world-class Armed Forces work tirelessly to defend the UK and protect our people all day, every day. Many of the skills gained training or serving can be hugely beneficial as a foster carer. Combined with life experience, they could enable you to change a child or young person’s life so you not only make a difference with your career, but at home too.
The council welcomes all enquiries about fostering. Portsmouth City Council’s foster carers come from all walks of life and they all share the same commitment and motivation to make a positive difference to a child or young person’s life.
We need more foster carers from diverse backgrounds to reflect the looked after children and young people in our city. If you are 21+ and have a spare bedroom, then you can foster with us regardless of age, gender, sexuality, faith, ethnicity, and marital, residential or work status.
There are many types of fostering and everyone will be able to find one that’s the right fit for them. This could be a short or long-term arrangement for a child or siblings until they’re ready to live independently or be reunited with family, support for children with a disability or children seeking safety and asylum, supported lodgings to develop their independent living skills, a parent and baby placement, or respite care.
We offer our foster carers competitive fees and allowances for each child in their care, a bespoke training programme and 24/7 support, access to our mentoring scheme and the award-winning Mockingbird model of care, discounts and benefits, social activities, and free membership to The Fostering Network.
Our foster carers come from Portsmouth itself or the immediate surrounding areas, from Emsworth and Rowlands Castle to Gosport and Fareham, and the Isle of Wight and Hayling Island to Petersfield and Havant.
Could you be their hero too?
To learn more about the positive impact you can make to the lives of Portsmouth’s vulnerable children and young people, join us at one of our forthcoming events or get in touch to arrange an informal 1:1 with one of our experienced team or existing foster carers.
