Join us this Carers Week 5-11 June 2023 to recognise and raise awareness of the vital work of our foster carers and the continuing need to recruit more in the Portsmouth area.
Our foster carers are dedicated and inspiring individuals and couples who believe in making a difference to the lives of vulnerable children and young people from our city. They come from all walks of life, but work in unison with professionals, birth families and our experienced foster care team to provide exceptional support and a loving home to a child, young person or sibling group in need.
“We’re very busy, but we wouldn’t have it any other way,” shared Nina and Keith. Read their story here.
Carers Week is the annual campaign that celebrates and recognises the vital contribution made by carers, of caring itself, and the contribution caring makes to families and communities throughout the UK.
5-year-old Luke*, for example, was looking for a solo placement with foster carers who can spend time with him, have patience and that are understanding. He loves playing with his train set and would really benefit from a home that can give him a lot of love and will enjoy his big personality.
Our foster carers receive excellent, local training and 24/7 assistance, including through our mentoring scheme and the Mockingbird Programme, and competitive fees and allowances.
“Transferring to Portsmouth City Council was the best decision we have made. The quality of support is so much better.” – Sam*, Foster Carer
The council welcomes all enquiries about fostering. This could be a short or long term arrangement for a child or siblings until they’re ready to live independently or be reunited with family, support for unaccompanied children seeking asylum or children with a disability, supported lodgings to develop their independent living skills, parent and baby placements, or respite care.
Anyone aged 21+ with a spare bedroom could foster with Foster Portsmouth regardless of their age, gender, faith, ethnicity, sexuality, marital or work status, or whether they rent or own their own home.
“My foster carers look after me. I eat healthily and look after my teeth.” Robert, Aged 8
There is no better time than this Carers Week to change their life… and yours.
