Could you be the missing piece to a young person’s puzzle?

Love knows no bounds, nor does fostering. To coincide with New Family Social’s annual LGBTQ+ Adoption and Fostering Week, which begins today, March 4, Foster Portsmouth would like to encourage individuals and couples in this community to consider the impact they could have on a young person’s life through fostering.

This year’s LGBTQ+ Adoption and Fostering Week theme encourages more LGBTQ+ people to consider alternative ways to form families, such as fostering and adoption.

Foster Portsmouth is proud to support not only LGBTQ+ individuals considering fostering, but also current foster carers from this community throughout the week and year. If you are LGBTQ+ and want to expand your family through fostering, we would love to hear from you.

We need more foster carers from all walks of life to represent the diverse range of children and young people we care for. We believe that personal qualities, not gender or sexual orientation, define a great foster carer. Your life experiences could be extremely beneficial to a young person who is attempting to discover their own sexual identity or has faced discrimination and prejudice.

We need additional foster carers with the skills and experience to help children develop a positive sense of their own identity. Foster Portsmouth welcome all enquiries about fostering regardless of age, gender, faith, ethnicity, sexuality, marital, residential or work status. This could be a short or long term arrangement for a child or siblings until they’re ready to live independently or be reunited with family, support for unaccompanied minors or children with a disabilitysupported lodgings to develop their independent living skills, parent and baby placements, or respite care.

Carers receive local round the clock support and ongoing quality training such as therapeutic care including through our mentoring scheme and our innovative award-winning Mockingbird programme which provides a support network of other foster carers similar to that of an extended family. They also receive competitive fees, benefits and allowances.
