National trends have meant that it’s even more challenging to find new foster families to care for the vulnerable children and young people in Portsmouth who find themselves in need, particularly those who have the time and room to take in a sibling group.
Many childhood memories of Christmas consist of time spent with siblings, and Foster Portsmouth believe that siblings should be kept together wherever possible in foster care so they can still experience those moments together.
Children like siblings Chloe* and Imogen*. 12-year-old Chloe, although initially shy, is very chatty and likes jokes and banter. She loves art and crafts and will spend hours drawing and painting. Chloe also likes school, as well as keeping in touch with family including her aunt and cousin, and enjoys hanging out with her sister 11-year-old Imogen.
Imogen also loves to do crafts and creative activities including art and drawing, as well as watching TikTok videos. Like her sister, Imogen is shy when she first meets new people, but when she comes out of her shell, her great sense of humour and quick wit shines.
Foster carer David shared recently: “My wife and I have been fostering through Portsmouth City Council for just under two years now and have found it to be a very rewarding experience opening our home to young people in need.”
We need more loving foster families this coming year to help us ensure siblings can stay together and other children find loving homes… for next Christmas and beyond.
We offer our foster carers fantastic allowances for the children in their care, thorough training and continuing 24/7 support, access to the award-winning Mockingbird model of care, discounts and benefits, social activities, and free membership to The Fostering Network.
“Portsmouth allowances are generous compared to others. It shows they value foster carers.” – Foster Portsmouth foster carer
Our foster carers come from all walks of life, and they all share the same commitment and motivation to make a positive difference to a child’s life. Foster Portsmouth welcomes all enquiries about fostering regardless of age, gender, faith, ethnicity, sexuality, marital, residential or work status.
