Foster Carer Recruitment Event

We’re holding our first foster carer recruitment event of 2023 on Saturday 21 January from 10am-1pm at Portsmouth’s Holiday Inn Express, Farlington.

The event will provide an opportunity for people living in Portsmouth and the surrounding areas who wish to find out more about fostering to talk directly to existing foster carers and to hear first-hand about the rewards fostering can bring.

“There are so many children who need looking after. I would really encourage people to
look into fostering as it’s such an amazing experience.”
Emma, Foster Carer

We need more foster carers from diverse backgrounds to reflect the looked after children and young people in our city.

Children like 8-year-old Sophie*, described as ‘an amazing young lady’, who likes arts & crafts, dancing, baking, singing and drama. She also loves animals and school. Sophie needed some quality time and emotional warmth in a loving foster home.

Or 12-year-old Pompey fan Nathan* who is very active and likes physical activities, especially football. Caring and sensitive, Nathan thrives on 1:1 time, and loves to sing, play pretend and indulge his active imagination.

“The 18-year-old that lives with us came to stay when he was 11 as a short-term
arrangement, but we all clicked and got on really well.”
Sally, Foster Carer

Anyone aged 18+ with a spare bedroom could foster with Foster Portsmouth regardless of their age, gender, faith, ethnicitysexualitymarital or work status, or whether they rent or own their own home.

The council welcomes all enquiries about fostering. Portsmouth City Council’s foster carers come from all walks of life and they all share the same commitment and motivation to make a positive difference to a child’s life.

We welcome all enquiries about fostering. This could be a short or long term placement for a child or siblings until they’re ready to live independently or be reunited with family, support for unaccompanied minors or children with a disabilitySupported Lodgings to develop their independent living skills, parent and baby placements, or respite care.

“I would say to people that are considering becoming a foster carer… go for it,
enquire, look into it. We need you!”
Dianne, Foster Carer

Foster carers receive excellent, local training and 24/7 support, including through our pioneering Mockingbird Programme support network and mentoring scheme, and competitive fees and allowances.
