Great South Run

Our team of foster carers, the children they care for, their birth children and families, staff members and supporters will once again be taking on the challenge of this October’s Great South Run 10-mile, 5km, junior and mini races.

If you’ve secured your place in one of this year’s Great South Run events over the weekend of 19-20 October, Foster Portsmouth would love you to join our team and wear one of our branded running vests to help us raise awareness of the need for additional foster carers in our city and the surrounding areas.

The 5k race, junior and mini races will take place on Saturday 19 October, whilst the renowned 10-mile race takes place on Sunday 20 October.

The junior (2.5km) and Mini (1.5km) races give the athletes of the future a taster of the big events and the opportunity to grab their finisher’s medal.

Both the 5k and 10-mile races provide spectacular views across the Solent, a fantastic atmosphere and a fast, flat route. They take in some of the outstanding sights and sounds of Portsmouth including its history, landmarks and iconic buildings.

Portsmouth’s supporters will keep spirits and motivation up the whole way round each course with music, cheers and fist bumps all part of the Great South Run experience and an incredible weekend of running.

Whether someone chooses to do it as a challenge, to raise the profile of services such as Foster Portsmouth, in aid of a charity such as Flying Solo who improve life opportunities for care leavers, or simply for fun, the 2024 Great South Run is yet again one not to be missed.

If you’d like to join our team and wear one of our Foster Portsmouth running vests, please email with your vest size (S, M, L or XL or chest size for children) and home address.

Good luck to all our runners this year and thank you!
